Bobby Ward, Director at Vorto Trading, gives us an insight in to what the team are passionate about, fellow action takers and people who work hard to create a successful career doing what they love. Just as we have at Vorto.
INVESTING IN WINNERS
I’m passionate about trading having started at just 16. But I also have a passion for helping the next generation of people realise their dreams. Professional boxer, James Branch Jr, went to the same high school as Chris, my fellow director at Vorto, and I so it seemed like a really great opportunity to sponsor a young professional so close to home.
I see similarities between boxing and trading which is why I want to help James on his journey. Both require a huge investment of time and hard graft to achieve success; involving hours and hours of learning your craft and taking calculated risks for high returns.
We were lucky enough to watch James fight in his professional boxing debut at the O2 last month and his determination and desire to win was undeniable in every round until he took the overall win. James takes one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming World Champion with every fight he wins and I’m grateful Vorto Trading can be a part of his journey!
“Thank you to my sponsors: Vorto Trading. Without them, I couldn’t be a full-time professional boxer.” – James Branch Jr, professional boxer signed with Frank Warren
SUPPORTING ACTION TAKERS
Be Smart About Art are a fabulous organisation which help young artists and art dealers succeed by offering them advice, training and networking opportunities. Vorto have sponsored their most recent competition which gives up-and-coming art dealers the chance to win a place at business boot-camp which designed to help them create a stable future in an ever-changing art world.
I will also be judging the applicants and working with the other judges to choose worthy winners. I’m looking for applicants who create methods and routines which will keep an enterprise working efficiently and professionally as I believe consistent hard work is key to success in anything.
Successful art dealers need extensive knowledge of their field, be able to keep up with the current trends of the markets and a specially trained eye for spotting potential emerging artists. All of us at Vorto admire these attributes as we recognise them within our own work in FX.
Vorto value the importance of giving back and encouraging others to do the same. We recently took part in a charity golf day in support of ReachOut UK which is a mentoring charity working with young people in disadvantaged communities. They do a lot of work in and around London and it was a reminder that children need our support so close to home.
Chris, Rob and I played golf with former England cricketer Matthew Hoggard as our team’s host of the sporting legends took part in the event. Hoggard holds the impressive acclaim of being the 6th highest wicket-taker in England’s test match history, with 248 wickets from 67 matches.
The event has inspired us to organise our own charity golf day next year for a worthy cause as £16,500 was raised for the mentoring charity ReachOut. Watch this space!
Over the years Rob, Chris and I have all taken part in numerous challenges for charities close to our hearts. One of the biggest challenges was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro: the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895m above sea level!
In preparation for the five-day trek we climbed Mount Snowdon and Ben Nevis and even had sessions in a high-altitude chamber ready for the thin air. We worked together to train for and go on to complete this huge challenge.
Chris climbed Kilimanjaro in aid of Alzheimer’s Society while Rob was fundraising for Great Ormand Street Hospital Children’s Charity; both causes we all cared about.
Other ventures of mine include a 10k run for Great Ormand Street Hospital Children’s Charity, the Special Forces Experience at Pan Y Fan where I walked 24km carrying 35lb plus my water and food supply over a 3000ft climb and Rob’s Colchester Half Marathon which he completed in 1 hour and 46 minutes!
